OVERVIEW

Powering Asia's Future: Unlocking Japan-Malaysia Partnership for Energy Security and Transition

As Asia confronts the dual challenge of powering economic growth while accelerating decarbonization, energy security has emerged as the defining agenda of the decade. At the centre of this transformation lies a powerful partnership: Japan's technology, capital and industrial expertise combined with Malaysia's strategic location, energy resources, and growing role as a regional energy transition hub.

Today, Japan and Malaysia are deepening cooperation through initiatives spanning carbon capture and storage (CCS), sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), hydrogen, renewable energy, power grid development and transition finance. As Malaysia assumes a leading role in ASEAN's energy transition and co-drives the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) agenda with Japan, both countries are uniquely positioned to demonstrate how economic growth, energy security and decarbonization can advance together.

Building on the spirit of MUFG N0W - Net Zero World, MUFG continues to convene influential leaders from government, industry and finance to shape the conversations that matter. This year's event, Powering Asia's Future: Unlocking Japan-Malaysia Partnership for Energy Security and Transition, brings together key stakeholders in Kuala Lumpur for a high-level dialogue on the next chapter of regional energy collaboration.

Against the backdrop of a rapidly evolving geopolitical and energy landscape, the programme will explore how Japan and Malaysia can strengthen energy security, accelerate deployment of emerging technologies, mobilize transition finance and unlock commercially viable pathways from ambition to implementation. Discussions will focus on practical opportunities across clean energy infrastructure, low-carbon industrial development, carbon management, and regional supply chain resilience.

More than a dialogue, this event aims to catalyze partnerships, investment and action, reinforcing Japan and Malaysia's shared commitment to building a secure, competitive and sustainable energy future for ASEAN and beyond.
